^ Nice jar
i had that jar since he was 2"-2.5".. he was an ugly baby.. hehehe.. i din't even think he was a jardini just trusted the lfs in houston... he's turning out purtie nice... now i hope he stays mellow cuz i'm gonna have some pbass, dats, and polypterus as tankmate some day... already have those fish but in different tanks...

I agree with everyone that says it's up to the personality of your fish. Also, my Jardini didn't become super mean until he was well over a foot long. He was skittish and jumpy up to almost 15" and then something happened and he became an underwater pitbull and started killing everything in my tank.

goes on a fish by fish basis, jars are known to be killers. but in some cases not.

I have a theory that I am testing, this came up from another aro keeper. He keep a small jar 6in, with a bunch of dats(3-14in). The jar eventually grew to 24in, he said that the jar has not eaten or beaten any of the fish in his tank. Our theory is that when the jar was young, the larger fish intimidated the jar. That in turn made him a mellow fish. The jar is still in the same 210 with about 12 dats(6-15in).

I also have a 210 with a 10in jar that I have had since 5in, that is keep with larger fish that don't take shiet from anyone. 11in longnose, 13in tropical gar and 3 10in tin foil barbs. Currently I have seen no fights or damaged to any fish. Jar competes for food very well, and swims together with the TFB. I am hoping jar will grow to 20in plus and still be mellow as it is now. it would be an awesome fish.
I like your theory a similar thing works with oscars they can get used to certain tankmates and not eat them even when the oscar out grows them 3-5x.

My Jar (18") is a terror when it comes to destroying crickets or pellet food... but when it comes to fish he wont harm anything, he generally swims past feeders only 1" long not bother having a bite only interested in his next meal of pellets. He bullies my silver dollars and GG at times but nothing has ever ammounts from it, not even a scratch. I have kept him in community tanks ever since getting him at 4"-5" long and he has never killed a fish other then the odd feeder.

I like the experiment but, it didn't work for me. I had an established tank. Oscar, jurupari, pleco, dat, sevrum and a headstander. After the 8" mark, 1 by 1 I've had to get rid of fish till just the dat and pleco are left. My jar is a bully and will attack the other fish if they come out of hiding and will try to bite your hand given the chance. Mine is definately of the dark side.
