Meh, I'm lazy, the blackwater stuff works well enough for my fish and I. It's even better in the goldfish tank (I was curious!! lol)

The stuff in the yellow bottle I feel is better, considering it's already a liquid, and there's not a very big chance that particles can fall through the filter and get into and irritate my fish's gills.

peat and blk water extract are the same thing...but what last longer, peat does. When adding either or, if you havent remember to remove the carbon from your filter(s). Of course dimming the lights help, they come from murky waters. Whats the use of having a fish tank when you can't even see your fish? Having the lights on a 8-12hr timer, eventually your pygos will get use to the light. One thing I forgot to mention...adding bwe or peat your ph will drop so keep an eye out on your ph

I do not even try to show my fish off during the day , I tell people to
stay away do not were about the PIRANHA Till later .
Then when the lights go off in the house and just the tank
is lit up (You Can See Them , They Can See You)
PLUNK There goes the 7 inch gold fish or koi
And Show is on .
So dont get all half baked and think you can march a parade
of your freands around infront of the tank at 2:00 Pm
and geta show while you are splashing in the water IT DONT WORK .

Sorry I may have overexacharated a little about you situation
but if you can pick up what i am laing down then you P's will shine .
:)
