I had her in a tank with red flint sand and her color was much lighter, the black sand has seemed to pull out all the black in the spotting.

Just curious, why do you say that? I haven't had any problems with it yet and she's been in this tank for a month or two now.
 
It's actually the eco-complete so that "gravel" is only on the top because the sand settles onto the bottom. She can still bury herself completely with the sand that is underneath the gravel.
 
very nice ray. any redness on the belly? the sand i had in my tank irritated my rays belly, so i removed it and prob. solved.
 
no I haven't had any problems yet. She has been fine in the eco-complete sand and in the red flint sand I had her in before. I was a little worried about the eco-complete because underneath the gravel the sand is really fine, but I havn't had any problems yet.
When I had her in the red flint sand, it would sometimes stick to her but it would stick to the slime coat, and it really didn't seem irratating to her.
