Keep in mind that your average person who keeps fish isn't a monster fish keeper like the folks here mostly are. If you're willing to do the maintenance on them, obviously there is little that bests discus. Nice thing about them is that they thrive in the conditions that driftwood creates and driftwood is one of your nicer tanks decorations. If you don't want to put up with the extra hassles of keeping discus healthy and happy and the potential for aggression if they pair up, there are lots of non cichlid species that will doubless make your friend very happy. Denisoni barbs in addition to a bunch of other barbs, rainbows, paradise fish, tetras, gouramis. You could set up something really nice and active without the discus too. Honestly, while a lot on this forum find Aros really cool, the average person is either gonna see it and say that's neat then go on, or just think it's ugly :p. Hope everything works out.

Wow, that' endless right there.....Discus would definitely be nice. But then again, with that size tank, you could have schools of pretty much any little colorful fish. I would say some africans, but only because they're busy fish. Discus are beautiful, but don't do much as far as entertainment. lol Considering that cost isn't an option, get a super red arro........and then the discus would be cool too. :naughty:

what kind of filtration are you looking at FX5s wet/dry powerfilter? i got two penguin350Bs and a FX5 STUFFED with media on my RBP tank and it is working great for me

We're thinking wet/dry right now but I'm also looking into the FX5 because I've never used one and they sound pretty good.

that's exactly the one I was thinking about! Haha just checked it out this morning. glad we're on the same page. I'm getting more and more stoked about this project each day since I don't want to risk anything larger than a 120 in my apartment. It's nice to have a bit more gallons/freedom to work with, even though it's not at my house haha.

the plants discuss and multiple shoals of different tetras killies and gugeons would be a great colorful active tank.... its a mix im considering in the future with the exact tank as a room divider

You have to remember though, not everyone is into the look of rays and aro's, most people I know think they are ugly looking.

I would go for Africans, you could make a real nice tank and it would have great color.
