WWYD w/ a 125 gal?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes get 2 pair!!!

Definitely get two pair, better chance at a compatable pair. But I will tell you if it was my choice I would get the Notopthalmus. They aren't common and get a very nice looking dorsal fin. They are a dwarf and it would depend on what you are housing them with.

Shadows right, these guys will be in a 125 for life.

Well, heres the planned stocking list:

(4) 4" Cren. 'Proteus' (2 m/2 f)
(6-8) 3-4"Veija Aregntea (I will weed out a few when they get larger)
(4-6) Hoplarchus psittacus (if I can find some);)
and a few bottom feeders(some type of catfish, not sure yet)

These guys will be in several different tanks until the 125 is cycled. You guys would laugh at my filtration to begin the cycle, several old HOBs that are for 30 gal. and 55 gal but I am starting my first DIY sump with an old 29 gal. tank I have. I'm gonna start on it sometime next week when my silicone comes in. :):):)

ah ok i see thats a good looking stock you have should be nice, how much will you weed them out by?

depends on aggression. With the 'argentea', I would think only one in the long run considering their size. More would help with the aggro but I don't think I could house that many in a 125 with other species. I'm sure I will have even more tanks setup when the time comes around so I will just take a few out and come up with another combo for another tank!;)

Nothing wrong with what you are using to start the cycle. I pulled two old Whisper 5's off each of my 55's to start my cycle along with a new XP4. I also took 50% of the water out of each 55 and put it into the 125. Once everything appeared to cycle I then took the Whisper 5's off and put an AC 110 on with XP4. This all took about 2-3 weeks, with a fully stocked tank.
When I get my 8 footer (with my uncle sam money) I am considering a sump.

Whatever works! 8 FOOTER!!!!!!! Hell yeah, that will be awesome. I think I'm getting a Nikon DSLR camera with my return.

Well, the 125 I got was used. It came with glass top, (2) 36" flores. lights, and a reef ready Oceanic stand. I like the stand cause it is taller than most stands for a 6'x1.5' footprint. It also come with a sump that was made by a company in FL(forgot the name) but it doesn't have the filter socks and I think those will really help with filtration so I'm gonna try my hand at making my own.

Oh yeah, only give $250 for all of it. If my DIY works out then I will probably sell the sump later. I think it's around 20 gal. with dual HOB overflow and hoses. The 125 is not reef ready, wish it was!
