I just picked up a Hemibagrus Wyckii today and before I put him in the tank.. Was wondering if he would fit well with a 7" Niger Cat, 16" Jardini and a few plecos? The wyckii is currently 6" and I'm going to house him in a 180 gal. Your help is most appreciated!

Uh, I don't know how they are when that size, but you are talking about the crystal eyed/black devil cat? If so I don't think they would last long. Mine I had was 24" when I got him and I'm about to get another at 10" I wouldn't risk it if I where you. I would give him his own tank or you can get one of the rubber maid stock tubs. I have had mine with a 20" common pleco and he didn't mess with him.

Yeah.. I am talking about the Crystal Eyed/Black Devil cat. Thanks for the responses guys!

yeah, better to start him off alone. No matter how nice he seems. Mine was really nice to me, I used to pet him, hand feed and I could even pick him up. But he still tore up a fish of mine

Tank mates is at risk... this cat need to be kept alone:(

Alright guys.. Thanks for the input.. I really want to keep him but unfortunately due to the risk of other fish, I'm going to have to return him.. Better left being not attached to it..

Hi,

this is Heiko Bleher and I wanted to tell you: you are doing good, or keep him alone !

I am making up a list of the thousands of species of fresh- and brackish water fishes I collected in my life (in 163 countries) - coming close to 25,000 forms (or species) but none, was as aggressive as H. wyckii. It must be, together with the Australian Coal Grunter, the most vicious fish on the planet. It will (eventually) kill every other fish, even of its own species. No more than a single one can be kept in an aquarium. That is it. Nothing comes close.

Best regards from one who should know,

Heiko Bleher

Are they compatible with smaller plecos half their size?

Risky, but I'd say that the pleco's have the best chance since they hide a lot and have the armor. I'd suggest providing some hiding spots that the larger cat can't get to.
