Actually, if you look closely, you'll see some red on the fins. ;) Most of its fin look yellow because it's Xanthic. :)

I've seen xanthic SR and xanthic banjar red in person at CV Maju farm. They both have that golden orange fins not that kind of yellow. I must be blind I don't see red. Lol!

Well orangish. :P You should have taken some pictures. :) How come some "Banjar Red" end up with yellow tail when they had red fins when small? Do young Yellow tails have yellow on their fins since small size? Banjar Red/Yellow tail is the most complicated Aro species for me. :grinno: I found an interesting info about Yellow Tail on AF, "Yellowtail is from the Banjar Masin River in Riau, Indonesia".

Yep yellowtail have the orange/reddish on the fins when young. Usually the tip is darker and become lighter orange closing to the caudal pendacle. It turns to full yellow when they reach 12-14" and also the base color have that golden/greenish shine (See Koji's yellowtail ofr better pics). A banjar red when young looks like a juvenile super red and that's why some banjar red are sold as super red to confuse the buyer for extra money. When become adult the base color is just like a green arowana or just silvery.

Here is my Juvenile Yellow tail at around 7". I sold this one last year. I have a Yellowtail and a banjar red arriving on June. I will post a tread for comparison and update from time to time as they grow.

I already know the difference when they are bigger. It's just when their younger. I'm just confused since most people I've seen classify Yellow tail and Banjar red as the same fish. ;) Looking forward to seeing your future Aros.:D

Well they gonna come in at juvenile size so you will see the difference.

it give me a headache when it comes to YT / banjar red / green ........ :(
they all look almost the same in the features except color ..... the green can also have yellow tail if treated in white tank but not so striking yellow like above photo.

btw hao, banjarmasin is the capitol city of southern borneo/kalimantan ... riau is way way long to the west in sumatera island. :D

Natural hybrid can occur as Green arowanas are widespread but study by Pouyaud, Sudarto and Teugels in 2003 proved that yellowtails are not hybrids. I also thought that yellowtail were hybrid before. Lol! Someone would release it to the wild? If you been to Borneo, people there will likely eat an arowana or sell them.
May be not release, how about escape? :D Back in the 90's, rtg was considered as hybrid, until further study/research was done... Hope that yellowtail will be officially considered as another species, soon.
