Hey guys,

I got a XB gold arowana and it is about 15cm. When I first bought it I turned the lights on very about 14hrs a day. I noticed it is getting darker on his back.

Did I just accidentally tanned my arowana? Is this reversible? I hope it will not stop the crossing.

thanks

I did not use tanning light. I just used a white LED light, but through out my research, LED light can also tan arowanas?

Bit more info is...when I got him, he is in a WTT so it was really gold. I have a blue back ground and gravel (light colour).

So I don't know if it is just growing and the colour morphing or I accidently tanned it through long hours of normal white LED. The back is getting darker. When I got him it was very light and nearly cross.

I see rings developing on the scales too. Getting thicker.

It is eating NON stop and always hungry.

Gold Arowanas not necessarily need tanning. Also tanning needs special lights so nothing would have happened with regular LEDs.

Its better to keep the lights only while watching your fish / scheduled time (unless its a planted tank) since over exposure of lights can get your tank having algae issues.

Keep with While, Blue background which help Gold Aro develop color and shine. Give it time and feed nicely. Color enhancing (carotene rich) food will help as well.
