Description

Lepisosteus osseus is one of the less popular Lepisoteus species in the trade. These fish are usually more expensive than platyrhincus, oculatus, and spatula. Among the larger of the seven known types of Lepisoteus. Also perhaps the slimmest. These fish are very hardy, and can adapt to a wide range of water conditions. They are also able to gulp air.

Description

Rhaphiodon vulpinus is closely related to the genus Hydrolycus, also known as payaras, dogtooth tetras, or vampire tetras. Due to their immense similarities, these fish are often dubbed payaras by their owners. Rhaphiodon, not to be confused with the plant genus of the same name, is a monotypic genus, containing only vulpinus.

Description

The smallest known lungfish species. Also among the rarest. Any tankmates must be fast-moving. These fish have protruding gills, which is rare for lungfish. Not to be confused with Protopterus annectens, the larger and more common West African Lungfish.
