Helicopter Catfish
Wallago attu

Size: 3.5’ [Sometimes smaller, sometimes much larger]
pH: 6.5-7.5
Tank size: 500G/Individual
Country of origin: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam
Diet: Most live, frozen, and prepared foods of an appropriate size will suffice
Temperament: Relatively peaceful, though predatory
Temperature: 70-80° F
sg: Known to live in brackish conditions, though exact data insufficient

Description

Wallago attu is a massive Asian catfish which can on rare occasions reach over six feet. These fish, while extremely predatory, are not particularly aggressive. They are capable of getting along with most similarly-sized fish, and will eat just about anything that can fit in their mouths. I would recommend a small pond or pond-like setup for this species. May be able to live in brackish water.

Lake Matano Goby
Mugilogobius adeia

Size: 1.5”
pH: 7.5-8.0
Tank size: 5G/1 small group
Country of origin: Indonesia
Diet: Live and frozen foods. Can be weaned onto dry
Temperament: Peaceful, though slightly territorial
Temperature: 75-85° F

Description

Mugilogobius adeia is a rare goby native only to Lake Matano in Sulawesi, Indonesia. They bear some notable similarities to Brachygobius sp., the bumblebee gobies, though are clearly different in a number of ways. NOTICE: The link provided above is to a website based in Germany. Most entries previous to this one contain US links. If you live outside of Germany, this fish may be particularly expensive to ship.

Poso Halfbeak
Nomorhamphus celebensis

Size: 3”
pH: 7.5-8.5
Tank size: 20G/1 small group
Country of origin: Indonesia
Diet: Most live, frozen, and prepared foods of an appropriate size will suffice
Temperament: Peaceful, though slightly predatory and territorial
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Nomorhamphus celebensis, like the previously mentioned Mugilogobius adeia, is exclusive to Sulawesi in Indonesia. These halfbeaks, however, are native to Lake Poso rather than Lake Matano, hence their name. They are more robust than previously mentioned halfbeaks, though their beaks are still somewhat fragile. Care should be taken to prevent them from breaking.

pH: 7.5-8.5
Tank size: 15G/Individual
Country of origin: Mozambique, South Africa, India, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Vietnam, Australia, Papua New Guinea

sg: 1.005-1.015 [Exact data insufficient]

Description

On day two of this thread, I did a profile on Omobranchus zebra. Now, more than 200 days later, I am finally revisiting the blenny family. Omobranchus ferox is a primarily brackish water blenny known to enter freshwater lakes. Moderate brackish is recommended. NOTICE: The link provided above is to a website based in Germany. Most entries previous to this one contain US links. If you live outside of Germany, this fish may be particularly expensive to ship.
