Rainbow Belly Pipefish
Microphis deocata

Size: 6”
pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 40G/1 small group
Country of origin: India, Bangladesh
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Peaceful and delicate. May eat tiny fish and shrimp
Temperature: 70-80° F

Description

One of the relatively few freshwater Syngnathidae species, Microphis deocata is a very fragile fish that is a very picky eater. This fish is a unique choice for the mid-sized to large species tank. These fish are not recommended for the typical community, and are easily outcompeted by more robust species of fish. Brackish is not required, or even recommended, as they are not known from brackish environments in the wild.

Hopefully these brief absences will be few and far between. I will stay on schedule from now on.

Don't apologize. You are doing this for enjoyment and as a help to others; unless somebody starts offering to pay you for your time, you get to choose how much you do and when you do it. :)

Blue Whale Catfish
Cetopsis coecutiens

Size: 1’
pH: 6.0-7.5
Tank size: 90G/Individual
Country of origin: Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Bolivia
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Relatively peaceful among similarly-sized tankmates, though, strangely for its size, is parasitic on larger fish
Temperature: 75-80° F

Description

Cetopsis coecutiens is a parasitic catfish, which feeds on larger victims by biting chunks out of the flesh of larger fish, similar to the infamous cookiecutter shark, a deep-sea shark species known to latch onto its victims and bite out chunks of flesh. These catfish are very voracious, and can be considerably dangerous in groups.
Might I add these fish aren’t too hardy. Still miss my old one.

Eel Mormyrid
Isichthys henryi

Size: 1’
pH: 6.0-7.0
Tank size: 75G/Individual
Country of origin: Rivers throughout countries from West to Middle Africa
Diet: Live and frozen foods
Temperament: Predatory and aggressive
Temperature: 75-85° F

Description

Isichthys henryi is an insanely rare and eel-like mormyrid from Africa. Prior to the day I wrote this entry, December 23rd, 2021, I had never heard of this species in my life. They are incredibly difficult to find in the aquarium industry, which is unfortunate, as they are rather unique in terms of shape compared to other mormyrids.
