seen one at the lfs and thinking of getting it.
ive kept one before but he got killed while still small.
so my knowledge of them is kinda blurry.
theyre one of the more aggressive pike right?
are they all out killers?
or protecting my territory killers?
how big do they get?

i know they get 12'' to 14''.

Don't rule them out so quick. When they aren't paired up they aren't really that bad. I've only lost 7 fish to them. I'll explain each case. The first were when I first got my females, five 5.5" red rainbows. Each was decapitated(the only part that fit in their mouth), all the other standard community fish(blue gouramis, rosy barbs, and others) were left alone. The next fish killed was a Paratilapia polleni. The females had paired up, and one laid eggs. Territorial defense of eggs is to be expected. The last fish to be killed was a young red devil. I had added six 2.5-3" to give the male something to chase when I was pairing him up with a female. The others were spared. One still lives with him and his female, a large male that killed the other devils.

Here is a pic of the male when he was in a community tank of mine. See the fins of the blue gourami in the top left.

The only thing I would recommend is to make sure their tankmates don't fit it their mouth, expecially catfish.

how big would tankmates have to be compared to them?
7 is alot of losses. :nilly:
Man I have been looking for one since I lost mine. I would grab it in a heart beat. If push comes to shove get him his own tank. Just my 2cents. But I know you keep cichla as well and this type crencichla is right up there in my opinion. I have a Johanna and a Seveni and am still looking for an Xingu 1 and 3. I also am wanting a Cobra pair so in all DO IT! You won't regret it. Pikes are addictive.
