Xingu I

nice pike. id agree on the xingu I. i havent kept any of these specifucally but i know most pikes have been successfully kept with a variety of cichlids. i think the biggest troubles are with the more aggresives likes festae and managuenses which would likely terrorize your whole tank. otherwise most cichlids will work. ill emphasize again its easier when they are grown up with other fish.

jack dempsey, maybe firemouths, gold saum perhaps... might want to try some silver dollars as dithers as well. ive always been curious about the geophagus but dont know much about them aside from they look cool. maybe some other members know better about keeping them with pikes?

Alright, here's the plan for know. I'm going to keep it in the 45g for a few months until it's at least 6 inches. I'm thinking about moving the xingu and my jack female and EBJD in the 90g. The large jack acts a little aggrsssive in my 220g any way and it would free up some room for the severums I've got growing in the 45g. My wife has been wanting new flooring in the room were the 90g is so I'm going to have to take it down anyway to replace the floors.

Does 2 jacks and a xingu I sound reasonable in a 90g?

i think it sounds reasonable but i think you'll want some dithers/target fish to help possibly spread aggression. with only 3 aggressives the weakest one gets picked on most and that could be a problem... u add a few dithers and now the jd is also being aggressive to them to... so it helps spread the aggression. something u might want to consider

I've had luck with any fish that was about the same size or smaller and not shaped like a pike. Convicts, red hooks, jack Dempsey's, red devils. I like the pike to be the biggest fish if anything is going to be eaten I don't want it to be my pike. Like " its an obsession " said when I added two mating convicts to my cobra pike tank it really strengthened the bond between the two pike. They banded together and became much closer and much less aggressive toward each other. They did on the other hand become more aggressive toward the other fish but that is par for the course. The more fish in the tank the better and more active it looks and the less leftover food at the end of feedings as well win win
