Im switching up stock a bit, selling my ctenopoma, striped raph and possibly ornate bichir (not too sure on him tho), and getting some new growouts. My ma and sister came to me being like sooo.. what fish do you want for xmas? Lol

Question is, can different pike characins live together? Or will they see each other as direct competition and always fight? I know people comm red tails and yellows but Id like to add a Bicuda and a Hujeta. The hujeta is going to be smaller at like 3 inches and the bicuda will be around 5 inch. I know in the long term the bicuda will be able to eat the hujeta but i know when to seperate fish lol.

Theyll be QTed with an azul pbass in my 30 ga and pellet trained. Which brings up another question, how long is it safe to starve such small pikes? ive done pbass but never a pike characin so this is uncharted waters for me

I don't know about all of that but I'd be interested in the Ctenopoma if you can ship it.

Sorry K, the cten is promised to a friend who is obsessed with it.. he might cry if I sell it to someone else haha

Oh well that's okay, sounds like it's going to a good home.

Oh yeah for sure, he's going into a 75 w/ some good tankmates, rope fish, delhezi, baby odoe pike, a couple heckelli threadfins. Should be great, this kid is kind of like my fish apprentice lol he got into it after seeing me get back into it and takes good care of his fish

When I picked up my boulengerella I noticed that it was the alpha in the tank and jousted w/the others but then out of the blue i saw him go for another's tail and snag it above the fin scales went flying and he wriggled free. He jousted harder and more furiously with that one for some reason so i bought him after seeing him eat (sign of good health). In my tank he's not aggressive at all... He has difficulty moving around in the current lol. But idk that's just what I saw, im sure that they normally can be kept together I've seen dozens online commed. Plus mine has been good so far with a tarpon and a bichir. GL

LOL@fish apprentice.

Nice thanks for the advice creni, my only worry is the Bicuda. Its bigger then the hujeta and there is a surprisingly low amount of info online about keeping them in tank. Plenty about fishing for them lol. Even on YouTube there's probably only about 3 videos of people w/ true Bicuda (which is partially why I'm getting one). I've only seen them commed w/ spotted pike characins, not hujetas. Hopefully the bicuda doesn't have an issue w/ sharing a tank with a smaller and pretty different looking pike. Not worried about the azul pbass, he should be a lot thicker and heavier then the pikes and if anything I feel the pikes will be bullied

Yeah im kinda tempted to try bicudas but I figure that they'll just be (behavior wise) similar to mine so i don't feel the need to get another one lol now what I really want is some trout, dorado or another odoe :) lol
