I had two XP3s on my 135gal African Cichlid tank, sold the tank and replaced it with a 240gal, which only has a FX5 and 2x 1500gph Seio pumps. There is only a 22 inch black aro in there so the FX5 should be suffificent until I add more fish and at which point and another canister filter. I also have a 180gal tank with some P-bass, Jar Aro, Birchers, and a few catfish, this tank has 2x XP3s, AC110 and a Seio 1500gph pump.
So as others have stated already you should be able to get away with just XP3, for a little bit.
