It all depends on what you want to keep in there and the size of the bioload. Even if it is lightly stocked I would still add a hob to it. I have a xp3 on my 100g 6ft long. Intake on one end return on the other side, and i found the circulation to be a little weak, i added a penguin and it helps alot.
