At 5am this morning my wife wakes me up with “THE CARPET IS WET”!:WHOA: The water level had dropped about 4 inches in the 55 gal tank. A quick inspection revealed that my xp3 was leaking at the top seal. After a couple hours clean up, I finally had time to look at the filter. I couldn’t find any thing wrong. :confused:Put everything back together fired it up and it’s running leak free. We did our weekly 50% wc and I had installed a custom spray bar across the back of the tank. Has anyone ever had a xp to leak like that?

The only time my xP3 leaked was just after I had cleaned the canister. I had prefilled the canister too high and when I reattached the top, it didn't create a good seal. All I had to do was to take the top off and reattach it. Hasn't leaked since. Unlike my Fluval, I've never had an xP3 blow its O ring and just start leaking before. Was it leaking from the canister or the return hose?

not a xp3 but my fluvals do. and so i use cooking oil on the O ring and check impeller to make sure it is running properly and clean. i love canister filters but i swearer at least with fluval series the old canisters were the best i never had problems i have some fluval 403 that are 10 years old and running great were as my new ones do things like leak from time to time. good luck and i would call tech support.

Thank you for your quick reply. The same thing must have happened to me, because this was the first time I prefillied the filter. I usually just let it fill from the tank when I hook it back up. I feel better knowing it was something I did.

I've got 6 XP3s running and until yesterday I have never had a leak.

We had a power outage yesterday morning and after talking with the power company found out it would be a long outage. So I opened all my XPs and moved the biomedia into the tanks. Well after cleaning all 6 XPs and got them all running with the power coming back on, I had noticed the wet carpet around one of them.

Upon close inspection it apeared the water was leaking from the entry of the electrical cord. Took apart and found the leak was actually for were the hoses lock into the filter head. I don't know if new "O" rings are needed or if the locking mechanizm has just worn out. Luckly I have a spare XP so I switched heads and got it running.

I'll be ordering new "O" rings to see if this corrects the problem. Hopefully this is not something that will be happening alot.

Both my xp3s and my magnum 350 are now sitting in rubbermaids. I bet rubbermaid loves this hobby, never had many pieces until I started doing this.

My xp2 started leaking, but I couldn't even beging to tell you how old it is. I pulled it apart and the O-ring was trash. I have to order a new one for it, but I haven't gotten around to it.

I just had both of my xp3's start doing this. One competely SOAKED my carpet. It took 3 days, with towels and vaccuuming to get it dry! Both of them have started leaking from the cord outlet. Did you ever figure yours out? I've already lost the media in one due to a chaotic tank change. The extreme leaker was taken off and kind of forgotten......
