Can you run it without the baskets? Right now I use the bottom basket for mechanical filtration. The other two filled with bio media. I want to know if you can run same set up with no baskets, so I have more room for bio media. If so, how would I do it?

No, because of the design of the filter. The unfilter water enters the canister and moves to the bottom of the filter(outside the baskets). It is then drawn up though the baskets/media and pumped out. Without the baskets channeling the water it will only enter the filter and move 3 inches and be pumped out.

awfull filter anyway try a ehiem 2028 a million times better just press 1 button and its primed

really, that's funny got rid of all my eheims and went with the XP3s:ROFL: best thing about the eheims 2026 and 2028 is how after a couple years they leak when the filter is shut off. But to each his own I guess.

how come every time someone asks a question about another brand of filter, at least 1 person has to chime in with "X Brand sucks, only eheim good!". We get the picture, eheim makes good filters. Believe it or not though, maybe giving a blanket statement how a whole brand sucks without giving any back-up what-so-ever isn't going to get people to join your viewpoint.

i was thinking about this with my XP4 and all i did was take the basket dividers out, not much more you can do im afraid
