yaaay got my fx5<fluval>

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
also i have biological filter media<laguna>which he says he has in his trays wash it good put it in spaces then cap of each tray with the fluval fx5 number3 fine blue filter pads....do i need to put these boi mass gravel<large into filter socks?he didnt say...

I also tried the fine filter pads and they clogged up in 2 days almost shut off the flow entirely. I use a pair of fluval 404 round foam pads in the bottom tray they seem to work well and are easy to clean.

Make sure you place that media in a media bag, the spaces on the fx5 baskets are large those look like they could pass through. Those blue pads clog fairly easily cutting down on the flow rate. You can use them in the top basket qty 1 however I'd monitor your flow rates...All I have in mine is Fluval ceramic noodles , seachem pond matrix filling all 3 baskets. I don't use the pads anymore.

i think you should put just 1 of those pads in the bottom basket. thats what i did and thats what it reccomends on the box i believe. and ur gonna need some bag to put those rocks in because of the large holes in the FX5. the larger cermaic rings and stuff dont need a bag tho

Scrap the blue pads altogether and stick to ceramic rings in ALL three baskets. The stock foam in the outer core is already 5 times the mechanical filtration of other cannisters. What happens is that if you restrict the water flow in the baskets the computer controled motor will cut back power to match.

I have flow meters on all of our canisters and the FX5's set up the way I told you are running a constant 750 gph. don't forget this output is through a large double outlet fed by 1" hose rather than the normal 1/2" and 3/4" stuff. The pressure SEEMS less than it really is. Your confusing speed with volume...

Hook an FX5 up to a smaller after market output nozzle and it'l blow the end of the tank off. (don't do this by the way..it's horrible for the fish and rough on the filter...that was just an example.)

The AC110 moves a third of that at best however its in a waterfall configuration so you can SEE more of the movement.

i had a very similar situation with my tank when setting up my fx5, so... i just didn't use the brackets and its workin fine... the bracket fits in really snug between the two lips of glass and the lid :)
