I don't know if I am so quick to call it an RD, I've seen some barred midas that size that have the same shape, possibly even thinner.
AHHH... I have a barred midas too, I can't have TWO of em! Please tell me your wrong;)

RD/Midas. And if we're talking about which it looks more like I'd say Midas.
I wouldn't call your barred rd/midas a barred for sure yet either. It's still young. There's no telling whether or not it will go orange just yet. One of my devils didn't turn orange till it was a good 5".

I added new pics in my "barred Midas" he looks umm, different today? He has more of a red tent to him, and he has more of a spotted line instead of just the one spot??
So you think they are both the same type of fish??? Or just they are both midas..which yrs, I realize the red devil is a Midas also. Are you thinking maybe they are both a mix of some sort??

Do they take long to grow?

A red devil (A. labiatus) is not a midas (A. citrinellus) but in the hobby, what are most readily available as "midas" and "red devil" (and apparently "flamingo cichlid") are actually a mix of both. citrinellus x labiatus. The questions are not "is my fish devil or midas", it is "does my fish look more devil or midas".
The red tints of your barred youngster is normal. When they feel good they look good. Some lines carry more red tones than others.

This is one of my juvie midas at 3" and you can see some of that red tint come through in the fins.

This is my pair of barreds. The female is like a barred brick when spawning. The male's red comes in and out depending on his mood.

All of them true A. citrinellus. The only "devils" I have are not pure but rd/midas that look more RD than midas.

Wow, your "juvie" pic does look alot like mine does, and the male looks like a bigger version of him! I hope he is one cause I really like yours.

So we are saying that my RD, is a rd/midas then...I can agree with that. As they get bigger and change more I will post pics for updates. Not sure this matters but my "barred" is quite a bit bigger then my rd/midas.

Like I said, it's too early yet to know whether your barred will stay barred. Barred rd, midas or rd/midas are harder to find than the xanthic (orange) ones and some are late bloomers but they usually at least start to go orange by about 4" so you should know by then. :)

Ok, Thank you!! I would like to thank everyone for their help!!!!:D
