ahhaha, that's exactly why I want to talk with a Newfie. I read online how they talk, and it's absolutely hilarious.
I used to read the British magazine CAR and got used to the following examples of British English:
SALOON = not a place to get a drink, but a sedan
ESTATE = not a large property, but a station wagon
BOOT = not an article of footwear, but a car's trunk
BONNET = not a hat for women, but a car's hood

One I got a laugh from once was an English girl asking me to "Knock her up sometime",

I recall a story from an American attorney practicing as a solicitor in the U.K. In court, she described a weapon as a "sawed off shotgun," which unfortunately, to the horror and delight of the Brits in the courtroom, sounded very much like the British term "sod off" or f--k off to us Americans.
I met a brit kid in Thailand... he and his mom... they were real cool to hang out with. BUt they kept talking about "mossies"... .how bad the mossies were, and they just couldn't take it, etc....
I had NO CLUE what they were talking about. Finally I asked him what the hell a mossie was and he said it was a mosquito. Then it all made sense.
