Yanks lose, bummer, are the red sox still playing?
I didn;t think so.....I think they were swept out earlier, but correct me if I am wrong.
:)

So much for winning or losing like good sports and gentlemen
Dave, you can't rely the whole season on Randy Johnson and Mariano Rivera, just like we can't rely on Tim Wakefield. The Sox had NOTHING in terms of pitching this year, something that Theo Epstein needs to fix by NEXT WEEK.

Let me tell all of you Yankee fans something. Get rid of A-Rod. He may be spectacular in the regular season. But he's Mr. Choke come the playoffs. Giambi shouldn't be playing baseball because he's a cheater. The only Yankee player I truly respect, which is why I hate him so much :screwy: , is Derek Jeter. THe yankees don't function without him.

ARod totally underacheived in the play offs...true....tho he was not alone...but if not for his regular season performance the yanks might not have been in the playoffs at all.
Giambi did steroids up to last season and before...he paid dearly for it with an episode with cancer and also had other health issues....he cleaned up and worked desperately hard and was voted " come back player of the year" by MLB
I agree that DJ is the heart of the team, hence he is the team captain.
BUT...the Yanks' main problem was inconsistant pitching, same as the RSox this year.
on the other hand they found some great new young talent from the yankees farm system
ChienMing Wang and Aaron Small were fantastic, Small was the forst to EVER go 10 and 0 in his first season for the yankees, Cano at 2nd will be a very good player as he matures.
This off season will be very interesting for both teams, the RSox have I think 7 starting players as free-agents this time around.,,,it culd be a deciomation of the team. The Yanks lose kevin Brown....good riddance...and Bernie will probably retire....Matsui becomes a free agent but wants to stay with the Yankees, he has been exellent ( except in the playoffs :) )

ChiSox or Angels?

I think it's really unfair to crown giambi who is a "cheater" as comeback player of the year. he CHEATED so he should not have been in the running for that award. I agree that Cano is gonna be an awesome player. Now you've got a second baseman for the next 10 years or so.

Our free agents include:

Johnny Damon ( wants 4 years, 60 million, 32 years old: good riddance)
Mike Timlin ( He's def. gonna return. Most consistent reliever)
Bill Mueller ( He's gonna ask for way to much money and we have Kevin Youkilis who is the future for the red sox at 3rd base)
Kevin Millar (good riddance)
Tony Graffanino (watch out because Dustin Pedroia is gonna be as good as Cano)
Mike Myers (meh)
John Olerud (meh)

So I wouldn't say the sox are gonna be decimated. We've got schilling coming back strong, same goes for Foulke. Plus with our prospects, and key free agent signings like Paul Konerko?, we'll be stronger next year :woot:

Are you kidding? Damon is basically the backbone and the moral spirit of the Red Sox. Epstein had better keep him. He performs consistantly, works hard, and never complains. Ever. Also makes VERY few errors. You keep a guy like that for a long time.

You want to replace an overpaid fielder? Replace Manny. The man can hit, but he can't field worth sh*t.

Roll on next season, The Yanks-RSox rivalry is one of theoldest and best in all sports and without it baseball would not be nearly as fun.
:)
one of the reasons I like baseball is because it epitomises Summer, my favorite time of year, and when the season is over it means Fall and Winter are not far behind.....
This was the first season in a number of years that I did not go to a single game.....I got spoiled in '98, I went to 25 games and the Yanks won every one of them.
Despite the high prices going to a MLB baseball game is still a great night out, especially when/if the home team wins
:)

Yes, we swear at each other a lot more in the summer, do we not?

The Sox-Yanks rivalry is definitely the best rivalry in all of sports history.

how about the fact that Damon literally can't throw as hard as a woman. He's 32 years old and he's already showing wear and tear. He wants 4 years at 15 million each year. We can't get ourselves tied down to another player for a huge contract like that. The backbone of the Sox is def. Jason Varitek man. He's the heart and soul of the team. Damon gone. Konerko in. Can't really think of any other big free agents out there. The thing with manny is, are we gonna get equal value for him. Nobody is gonna give us anybody good and lets be honest, hes the best hitter in the major leagues. He's clutch.

I think Ortiz can easily pick up Manny's slack. Damon will heal, and he'll be fine. Varitek is a great catcher, but to me, Damon is has much more in terms of captain material to me.

You're absolutely right about Timlin. Keep his ass, for the love of god. However, don't underestimate Meyers all that much. You don't find too many submariners like him, just like you can't find anyone else that can pitch a knuckleball like Wakefield can. Hell, his pitches are so nasty we have to have Mirabelli just to catch for his ass!

Who we really needed to keep was Orlando Cabrera. He did great for us in the off season, and he kicked major ass this year with the Angels.

And come on man, if you get rid of Damon, do you really want the curse of jesus on your hands?

I hope we win it next year, but if we don't, I think it's the Cubs' turn. I'm a die hard New England fan first and foremost, but Chicago will always remain close to my heart. Born around 8:30pm CST at the Michael Reese hospital in downtown Chicago.
