Yay! My new ropefish!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah I'd buy ten of them at that price. Can't even find one over here. I'm thinking it might be mislabeled and is actually a baby senegalus.

I was thinking the same thing, dunno why but everytime a bichir is mislabelled, no matter what it is it's always labelled "palmas" :D

Mislabels I have seen
P.laps marked as delhezis
P.p.pollis as retropinnis
P.senegalus as palmas (petsmart)
Most stores just go by whatever the shipping list says-Anne

To slow down rope escapes and they are the experts of the Polypterids try lowering the water level to about an inch below the trim ring at the top of the tank also fiberglass window screen can be your friend-Anne

I would say that rope fish are the naughtiest in the Bichir family when it comes to escape attempts. Also prone to a bacterial infection after importation. I have lost count of the amount of dried up Ropes that I have encountered!

I was just about to ask how the hell you keep these fish in tanks! LOL Thanks for the advice. :D

He's gotten out again and gotten into the filter one more time. I was just looking at my tank and I was at a loss for what else I could do to keep him contained. I'll be able to move him to the 125 today rather than tomorrow but in the meantime, I've resorted to drilling holes in my little Rubbermaid bin and submerging the entire container with the lid locked on into the tank.

Relaxing hobby isn't it? lol

Well, that ended badly. LOL After I was able to get him into a tank he couldn't get out of, my ornate bit him and he's already dead. :( My ornate ignores everything including me, but put a ropefish in there and he turns into a jerk. LOL Well, at least his instincts are woken up now, and he's actually been more active, but the ropefish carked it and I'm pretty sure I'll never buy another one.
