Free feeders!! I woke up this morning and I had one guppy feeder left and I ll assume its a She now and its b/c she alway out swam my net so I just kept her in my feeder tank with some ghost shrimp. So I wake up this morning and there are a bunch of baby fish in my tank and it looks like she is letting out another one :nilly: So I thought Id share my nice luck of free feeders with you guys. I didnt even know she was even holding any babies or however guppys do. So I just thought it was cool - I woke up = free baby fish :D

Anyways I heard these things breed like bunnys - if Just throw some in a 10gal will I have a good luck of getting some babys?

Ya guppies can hold sperm from a male they were in contact with many mos. prior to fert and birth

Nice :)

Welcome Ash, to another addictive level of fish keeping. Keep your babies and grow them out to feeder size or breeder size. It is really neat to see them grow up. It will be hard to turn them into feeders (until you are over run with them). But trust me, you will be looking at the pet shops for more fish that are about to give birth or lay eggs.

Guppies, mollies, platties, and swordtails are livebearers. They give birth to live fry. You can tell if they are pregnant by the dark spot just at the end of the body cavity. Mollies are the exception; they are not transparent. You can tell if they are about to give birth by how fat they are. Compare the fish with others in the same tank to judge which are pregnant. Also, it is good practice to stop by the fish tanks in walmart, etc. any chance you get to see which fish are pregnant. I also try to tell the sexes of fish that I know about. Livebearer males have a modified anal fin called a gondopodium that is used to fertilize the female.
