i like it! maybe suggest an orchid if u dont like the rose, i use orchids loads in my grphics work im nuts about them at the mo... the aros are great! either sa or asian would look greet... but afro would tooo.....
that'd be sick. Maybe you could put the name of your lover in it, or are you not that committed? Or maybe you don't have a lover

if you care about the symbolism at all... there could be a lot to this....
i would say put a lotus in the center... it is one of the eight symbols of buddhism...
i think it sort of symbolizes growth and enlightenment... the flower roots in the mud, grows through the water, and the flower blooms in the sun far above the surface... higher above than other flowers because of the strength of the stem..
the two fish, or golden fishes (goldfish), are also one of the eight symbols.. though both fish are usually upright, and not one upright and one upside down... they symbolize two rivers in india that represent the lunar and solar channels...
they also symbolize happiness, fertility, and unity...
i have wanted a goldfish tattoo forever.. but decided to go with a lucky cat, lol.
but you may also not be about buddhism as i am.. but its just symbolism...

i worked as a tattoo artist when i lived in Dallas for few years-i would remove the rose and use a waterflower-a lotus or something-and i agree that making them heartshaped wouldnt work quite right lol
also-dont EVER tattoo names of lovers on you- parents, kids and siblings are cool but trust me you will regret lovers later in life- i love tattoo work (done right-not the crappy scratch art that some ppl get lol) and have 7 tattoos myself- but keep in mind they are forever-and youll be staring at it forever lol
