He died last night guys. :(
I think it was from stress and ph shock... I took him straight home from the LFS and acclimated him really slowly and all seemed fine, walked in last night and he was belly up gasping.
No ammonia or nitrites, before you ask.

I'm so sorry about your eel, he was absolutely gorgeous :(.

I have a fire eel and I'm also concerned. He is extremely shy and I don't believe he is eating. Right now he is in a 45 gal. (tall tank) with a TGN (7-8") a JD and a Jewel Cichlid. The JD is a bit of a tank bully he's about 6-7".

I've tried feeding him market shrimp, blood worms, ghost shrimp, and as a last resort small feeders. I'm thinking about putting him in my 20Gal by himself to try and monitor his eating habits a little more. Do you have any recommendations about foods he might eat? I am starting to get nervous and think I may loose him soon, if this doesn't change.

get rid of the JD he could be bullying the eel...

I have my fire eel in a 110 with a cat and 2 danio, oh and a couple of shrimp (very small) all but the cat are for hunting

I would sug. putting him in his own tank, they are very shy and seem to give up the food easily, also I put the blood worms in a white net and let it float, now he see's the net coming to the tank and he gets very excited...

it might help your guy..

Thanks guys... I miss him a lot still. This was my third fire eel I've lost. My first jumped out of a well sealed tank after about six months, the second wrapped himself around my titanium heater and burned himself and died from the infection after about a month, and now this guy is gone too. I am giving up eels for now, as much as I love them. I have raised other sensitive fish that I still own and are thriving (elephant nose, black ghost knife, loaches) but can't seem to get it right with eels.
