Yellow lab food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the reply but I went to the guy I bought the fish from and he gave me a zip lock baggy of NLS pellets, another one with Spirulina flakes and one with a bit of fry food (my new yellow lab is holding)

Can't say without seeing your fish, but I would be concerned that there may be something more going on other than just being picky eaters. I only say this because I have been keeping yellow labs for years and never had an issue with feeding them. The ones I have kept pretty much devour anything I put in the tank. Is it possible they could be sick with something? Are your other fish eating normally? How are your water parameters?

It's not really that they were not eating I just did not have suitable food for them. They devour the nls pellets and the spirulina flakes. However they still don't eat it from the surface so I just push down the floating flakes.

Anyway my water parameters are:
7.9 ph
no ammonia
no nitrites
and barely any nitrate
(I was told by my lfs that it was a suitable level of nitrate)

spirulina is better of those 2 options, but I second the NLS suggestion

Ok first of all
You get out what u put in
Meaning crap food crap fish that extra $5 makes a huge differance in quality and health of the fish

Second
The labodochromis genus are insectovors and can handle a larger volume of protean than most mbuna and should be fed it several times a week to condition them for breeding as it helps with egg production and weight
(not blood worm ) this should not be fed to Africans as it can hold parisites and other nasties I suggest brine shrimp

With the not feasting off the surface this is proberbly due to being fed sinking food there whole life and have never had to do it
Remember u are what u eat

Again just to clear things up I am now feeding them nls pellets, spirulina flakes and cucumbers every once and a while. :)
