what's up guys? Well I have a yellow lab that was fine and healthy. All of a sudden he started to get a small white spot on his side, and now the spot has grown to about half of his side. The side where the spot is looks like it's being eaten or scraped my something, and I don't know what it is. Any feed back is appreciated. Thanks.

Does it look lke this?
ich.gif

If it does, it's ick.

I got some Firemouths once, like 7 of them. One by one a small white spot would form on them and after a few days became an open red sore it would multiply then, a few days later it would die. Every single one of them died within a months time. I treated for ich and tried a few other meds too. Really strange.

Most likely Ich though. Go get some quick cure and see if that helps.

Could you put up a pic that would be very helpful .

hope you clear it up an they survive

bump the temp up to 82 to 85, add more air stone and salt. don't rush off and get meds...yet.

yeah, when you are bumping up the heat move slowly (2 degrees and hour). I go to 84 and you'll need to maintain that for about a 10 days. Gradually add the salt (1 teaspoon per 5 gallons every 3 hours) for 1 day and then take a day off repeat the process for one more day. The salt will protect their imune systems due the bacteria growth in high temperatures.

After 5 days do a 30% water change and add more salt and then at 10 days do another 30% water change. At that point you should be clear of the ICH if that is what it is.

I had that problem recently and was able to make it through fairly easily losing no fish. My loaches got hammered with ich but they survived.

Good Luck and post some pics if you can...there is also a "fish disease" forum that is helpful.

It does not sound like ich, ich is small tiny white spots he is talking about a growing white spot eating the flesh. I ve delth with the disease more then once, not positive what it's called but it looks like cotton. I did get it to go away with Erythromycin or Tetracycline (sp) they both should come in the same type of packaging and be right next to eachother, they should also cost the same. Its a little pricy but it works really really good, just follow the directions. =] Make sure you keep up treatment becuase or have extra one hand if it is really bad it tends to want to come back when you stop treament if the fish is in bad shape still. Hope this helps. It does not harm scaless fish or other fish. Its great stuff. Make sure it is properly ID b/c if its what I think it is and not ich then higher temp. and salt wont get rid of it.

Agree, i also don't sound like its ich, could of been an injury that got infected. How are your other fishes? If possible i would move the fish into a quar. tank and treat it there. Best of luck.

If you can, get it out and quarantine it. If its ich, I usually increase the temp and treat with salt and water changes. I've tried meds before and some work well, I just prefer to avoid meds and they can injure other fish and damage decor (depending on the med).
