Yellow perch

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Unless 1-2 would be fine, I don't know maybe 2-3 it's too early to figure it out but I'm dying waiting for summer haha

I'd go 5-6. IME they're not that hardy but tend to be healthier in larger numbers. When one of the ones in my old trio died from a swim bladder infection, the other two soon followed due to stress of not being in a school.

I have 2 growing out right now, and ya get 4-5 of them. These two are active and healthy but I feel like they stress themselves out quite a bit sometimes, probably due to not schooling. They have however adopted a black crappie as a 3rd wheel and seem to be doing better.

Having fished for nearly fifty years I would say the smaller they are the stronger their need for schooling. As an example, just this last Saturday I was ice fishing and ran into a bunch of little perch, from three to four inches. Could`nt get to the gills because there were soooooo many pesky little perch.

a school of that size should probably go in a 300+ or pond. thats just my opinion I'm sure there will be someone arguing the point lol.

They only get 8-10" (12" if you're lucky) in captivity, it'd take years to get bigger. A 125 would last just a school of perch for a while.

that, to me, is a larger fish of the native variety haha. ehh...I don't know I just feel like thats a cramped space for perch ya know...
