Yellow perch

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
that, to me, is a larger fish of the native variety haha. ehh...I don't know I just feel like thats a cramped space for perch ya know...

Thet get much bigger in the wild, my personal best is 17" 2lbs 4oz. But in my experience keeping them and knowing others that keep them, it takes them a good while to acheive 12"+ in captivity. When they get above 12" I'd go with a 180 if not a 240, but again, it'll be a while before they get that large.

i wasn't aware they had a slower growth rate haha I'm just used to seeing monsters lol. I'm dropping mine in the 310 once the stands finally built. Hopefully that spurs a bit of good growth having all that water.

Good luck man, I hope yours grow 14"! I'd love to get another school of perch but I'm going to wait a while, I'm getting a pond for big cats and a 125 for some monster sunfish so I can't complain :).

Yellow perch where I live are rather small fishes, I can honestly say I have never seen one more than 6" long and we seine them up quite often. For some reason in the south the size of various fish differ from those in more northerly climes, sometimes they are larger sometimes they are smaller. I'm not sure why.

I raised one to 12" from 3.5" without any other perch. I kept at 78 degrees with tropicals which is higher than everyone says they should thrive.

That's pretty awesome that you kept one alone. I'm thinking 3-4 even though it's not a huge difference from 4-5 I don't know yet. Have to catch 1 before I can think about 3-4-5

I didn't even know that there were yellow perch in Oregon.

Haven't found them in the south umpqua (yet) but they're only a short trip away from where I live so a multi bucket trip will work just fine
