Well, after that last breeding thread, we'll hope this one turns out better. I caught them in the act today, and captured the moment on video.
the sex ratio is 1.3 in this display, and he's been going after the two larger females alot this week. The smallest female is a bit undersize to be sexually mature at this point.

Sorry the pics are so cloudy... they kicked up a lot of substrate during the whole process.

40 second Video (gets interesting about 30 seconds in :naughty: ) :

Great video! Thanks for sharing.
Are they typically this calm while mating. Watching my motoros mate was very different, and much more violent.
Do yellow rays, and marine rays in general, mate again right after giving birth?

Varies with the rays. Last time the male was much more aggressive toward the female. Yellow females do give off the hormone (like most rays) right after giving birth. After the next litter, I'm going to pull her away from the male for a bit to give her a break. This is the same female from the last round.

How big of a system are they in ? Its not like the ocean where the female could swim a mile away to get away from the male to rest.

For those of you keeping track... I'm getting close to pulling her from display so she can pup. The pup movement on her back is very clear. Shooting for 110-120 days.

:D
