Yellow ray breeding video/pics

Only time will tell. My initial thoughts where that they had long used the yolk and were living exclusively on uterine milk. Not sure about burning calories b/c they weren't swimming around. Makes me wonder what kinds of fat reserves have been crammed into those young livers. Fatty liver is something I've seen a lot of rays perish from.

These guys look 'older' than new born pups, that's for sure. Markings are crystal clear and they aggressively feed on PE Mysis.

interesting that the pregnancy was that long, what about the other 2 females did they go that long?

I would guess a combination of birthing environment, and a naturally long gestation. I'm wondering if early captive births were actually excellerated due to food supply and conditions. These parents are all WC animals (collected as adults).

How big across do these rays get Zoo?

that would definetly make sense, not saying that this is the same but when I breed live bearers for food the mothers will do the same and hold onto the young extra long if they feel something is amiss.

I guess with rays they take it the extra mile and go to the extremes. Be sure to keep us posted on the progress of the pups, I'd hate to see them not make it.

Think of them as the Atlantic version of the Cortez rays.
