Either one works for these guys. They have a fine sand on display, but I use that stuff off display. I find them (in the wild) on everything from the silt at the edge of grass bed to course rubble bottoms next to the edge of the reef.

OK, got it.

Finally time for a GOOD bump. 29 freakin' weeks later. A boy and two girls!!!!

See the pup just to the right of the female??

Into the holding system designed just for them.

Next to my hand so you can see how small they are.

I will say I'm thinking something went wrong that the female held onto them THIS long. I think they are far too developed at this point, and am really watching them now to see how they do. The up side is we learned that the female can hold onto pups much longer if she feels the environment isn't right for them to be born.

Nope, they will remain part of the collection.

Is that normal for these rays to go 29 weeks? Cool rays though!

I've read numbers as high as 6 months for them in the wild. One study I was reading was done on the animals right here off the coast of Miami. They concluded these rays pup twice a year max.

That is impressive, and amazing, you should look into breeding them comercialy as people will pay more for tank bred/raised due to less stress on wild populations. Though you would have to get more males and maybe more females, so as to keep them F1 or F2 at most (as F3 we are getting a little to much insest lol). Maybe you could even breed enough to cover the costs of having your tanks :)

I asked because I thought the California Rounds was 90 days, just thought they would be about the same but guess not
