good grief an arowana in a 2 foot tank.

err...just for the baby bro...i heard that if putting a baby aro in a large tank, maybe it can cause a trouble for the small baby to look for the food

later and so on, once it is getting bigger, i will migrate to larger tank to afford the size

owh ic...thanks for the info man, now it just about 1.5" later on when she grow up, that rule of thumb will be followed:D

and also, it is ok to feed this little guy with live small fishes? as she looks like not so very interested with blood worm

i bough a pack of blood worm, and from 1 cube i cut it to become 4 pieces..for meal time, i will give her 1/4 of that pieces...but she just ate a little bit of it, the rest of the blood worm just fall to the bottom of the tank

i thought for baby arowana it is better to feed it with blood worm right?
As a rule they will always prefer live food, it doesn't mean its better for them though. I'm Not sure what filtration you're using but if your tank is cycled i wouldn't put anymore little fish in. If your aro is eating a little frozen worm that's good. When i bought mine it was 6 inches already so i'm not too sure about little aros. you could try cut up shrimp, just make sure the pieces are small enough for the aro to eat.
If there are no small fishes your aro will eat more worm.

i just used a small sponge filter (as picture below) because some say it is better to use a small sponge filter for little aro rather than using water-cycle filter (as the small one still have less swim ability to swim)

but as long it eating then it could be fine right...and also even though it eating the small fishes i will continuously feed it with the blood worm (just afraid the remain of the uneaten worms will make pollution to the water)

now i am in the office, and really worried about how she is at home:(

nice little aro. i too used to house my 3" RTG in a 2 foot long with a sponge filter and every 2 days i was doing a 1/2 water change. for the first week it didnt want to eat any bloodworms or pellets. so i had to give it small neon tetras to make her eat again. i oly gave it once and after she was on pellet. i was feeding it hikari oranda gold and hikari cichlid gold because the pellets are small round ones. then after she hit around 6-7" i changed for hikari aro sticks. gl with urs =D

owh btw, is it ok to make that capacity of water change? i am thinking to make it once a week, maybe just give around 1/4 water change

haha its now around 15". got it at around 3" on dec 2008, grew more than 12" during the past 18 months. havent been home for the past 4 months, so havent had the chance to measure and take care of it as it should be. next month as soon as i get home, ill try to get an update of it =)

i wonder if a growth of 12" in 18 months is a good growth rate?

Feed it meal worm. They love it and grow fast.

later after couple weeks i will try to feed her with that meal worm, just afraid still to large for her

by the way, an update and question from me...

just now during at night, i turned on the light, i found that my aro is getting hungry...so it chased down the feeder fishes that swam at the bottom of the tank

so after chasing for a few minutes, it couldn't get any of those fishes...so i took 3 fishes from feeder tank and i threw it inside the tank...and gulp she just ate 2 of them

and after, i noticed this little guy started to behave like more aggressive...before this she just swam just near to the water surface, but now it swam in the middle of the water level...and some more, she just started to go up and go down..so i felt little bit scared if something happen to her, i just turned off the light and leave her alone...

for about 15 minutes later, i take a look at this little baby again, and it started to behave like it behave before

so is it normal? or is there some thing not good happen?
