haha! i love that you took the time to do the math for that. +1

rays were the first fish i actually researched as if i were writing a university thesis, but since then, i've realized that just reading a quick sticky is not enough. i read all of the stickies, start to finish, many times, to soak up the info. i talked to other keepers, read up on endless set up and filtration threads to figure out how to prepare my system correctly for them. it was my first time using a sump, and the trial and error, challenges etc from that alone was incredible. building a tank and stand from scratch, with little power tool or structural building experience, that could hold 3500 lbs of weight.
hell, just researching the build took approx 6 months before i even bought the first items needed.

it all comes down to research and learning. you adjust your thinking and your plans to suit their needs and requirements. if you can't accommodate them, it's best not to get them.

i will never purchase another creature without doing major in-depth research again. every fish i buy, i research beforehand.

i'm looking to purchase a volitan lionfish, so i've already started researching its needs, tank size and equipment, internal habitat, feeding and nutritional requirements, etc. i probably won't be purchasing this fish for a min of 6 months from now, if not longer.

seriously, take your time. don't rush in, that's where most mistakes come from.
