wow miles.. they look great.. fat and healty

Yeah.. They are in with the vulture cats, too ;) Ray safe? Yes!

The Yepezi stingrays, as well as alot of the Peruvian Variant Rays that I have imported, are all similiar in a way..

DW is probably alot better at ID'ing them than I, but they all seem the same to me..

On our Import list, there are 3 different rays that are very close in price, they are 'Raya Yepezi, Raya Laticeps, and Raya Histrix'.. I recently made our exporter change the Histrix name to 'Raya Common', because it was not a true Hystrix.

Whenever we order these 3 types of rays, they are always something different. It is often a variety of rays, basically all the same ones pictured above. The patterns will all be slightly different, but the rays pretty much all look the same, pattern wise.

I will attach a series of pictures, keep in mind that all of these rays were either labelled under the name 'Yepezi, Laticeps, Common or Histrix'.. all have their subtle differences, but the cost and availability is all the same.. (Sorry bro, I don't think that is a 'rare' ray.. They cost about the same as a Motoro coming out of the river..) FYI, Some of the rays are a lil skinny, as they are old pictures taken right when they were Imported..

Many people overlook the more common, less striking rays. I am mostly referring to yepezi, histrix, humerosa, magdalenae (retic.), orbignyi, motoro sp. Peru, etc.

What many people don't realize is that these rays do not grow to the monsterous proportions that the motoros, leopoldi, tigers and castexi do. (There is the occasional ray of the smaller species that does get larger than expected).

The average person can easily keep a pair in a 180 gallon tank for a long, long time. Maybe life. That is good for the hobby. You don't need a pole barn and a 1,000 gallon pond.

These rays are hardy, less expensive than a lot of others and have great personalities. The individual colors, patterns and body shapes are not striking but they should not be overlooked.

The craziest part is that no one is trying to breed these things.

I am a long time fan of the Brazilian histrix. I have two mature pairs. If I get them to breed I will be much more excited than I was with the motoro litters.

Don't overlook these less talked about rays.

I agree w/ Rvrays, these rays are very hardy... one of my first rays was a P. yepezi 'Neu sp. 1"... strong personality and even ate grapes! Brown rays are a great species for everyone, especially for 1st time ray keepers! :) Great looking rays, everyone!
