I know people might not agree with this but I think it looks amazing. So I got these massive swords and ferns this weekend. I upped my lighting and planted the tank. I will be dosing frets weekly after water changes. The tank is a 7 foot 290 gal tank with a big internal powerhead connected to some sponge filters aswell as an internal sump which works pretty dam well, the sump also has lots of indoor plants with their roots growing into the sump to control nitrates. The tank has my dovii pair at 8 and 9 inches then 3 Midas at about 2 inches which were meant to be dithers or just a snack but the dovii do not seemed to be worried with them their is also a Pleco in the tank. To top it all off the day after I added the dovii, they layer, their previous tank was a 6 foot but I never had any successful spawns with the eggs always being disturbed. But this can be expected with a young pair. The male 3 weeks ago was badly injured from getting stuck in a ornament which I had to bread open, his body was badly torn up nut his recovered extremely well just with his fin still healing and a scar on his side. Thanks for reading.

Setup looks great! Assuming they dont try to redecorate like many cichlids, I dont see where you would have a problem. Ime cichlids are bad for plants because of their habit of rearranging their tanks but having plants in pots should help keep them where you want them. Clump of java fern is huge!

looks nice, hope they dont ruin all your hard work. my 12 inch butti even rips them hard plastic moss balls to pieces for me and watches me watch him do it lol!

Looks very nice, but I bet you in a month or so your plants are shredded. Java fern is supposed to be bad tasting, and so the fish leave it alone, but my Cichlid's would rip chunks of it off and immediately spit them out. It's almost like they just wanted to be destructive for no reason.

I have that problem with my 13 inch midas. These pla ts are huge with massive roots. Got them from a hi tech co2 tank of a friends. Lets hope this helps. Thanks for the comments guys.

my dovii rips my plastic plants up, i end up super gueing some of them back together but he does it again. tank looks great tho! good luck
