Sorry people, but no fish on this thread pictured is H. Goliath. The red on the jaws is not an indicator. The short snub face is typical of Vittatus and the other striped species, not Goliath. The Goliath has a longer face and jaws even at that small size.

DanDan, on the contrary, all ATFs are very active. Mine don't stop moving unless they are totally freaked out and then their movements are nervous and unpredictable.

I'm just going by what i heard about these fish i have never kept one before ! You are possably right like i said i saw it on a site ! sorry if i'm wrong !

Haha, that's just a crappy grow-out/holding tank, he'll be going into a much better tank don't worry :)

Damnit fugu - I didn't know that, they don't look capable of eating huge fish. How can a skinny little body like that consume something it's own size? :O

So I guess I'll be seperating them tonight?

Oh Dan - I'm afraid you got the wrong person, I have never planned to make a catfish pool ;)

And also this fish is very active, constantly moving - whereas the vampire tetra just hangs around in comparison. The tiger is a quick active little fish.

Daz - thanks - he was absolutely fine, still bright and alert in the bag. The bag felt cold to the touch even with 2 heat packs, but there were no signs of stress or anything, and he's been eating fine today. Should not be a problem getting this fish onto dead meaty stuff, he gorged himself on half a block of bloodoworms, even grabbing the ones on the bottom of the tank.

fugu - are you sure a skinny 4 inch payara could eat a fish half it's size? There are a couple of black neons and danios that t still hasn't eaten.

They were also shoaling together - seems a shame to seperate :D

Don't worry, a vittatus is still an awesome animal, and more than enough for the typical hobbyist.
Rumblesushi, glad he made it ok. Should receive my tigers on Thursday. Hope it doesn't snow.
He maybe small, but give it time. Tigers are a fantastic fish to own. tank looks good to!

Daz

Agree 100%! Vittatus are an awesome predator, I take nothing from them, enjoy and post pics as it grows! :headbang2

fugu - I don't really know what to do. It's either risk the 4 vamp eating this 2 inch tiger, or risk the 4 inch vamp getting eaten by a 7 inch red snakehead. That's my choice :)

What would you do?

Oh and was that a freak incident the payara eating a similar sized one? Or have you regularly seen them eat fish at least half their size? :) How big were they at the time?

Cheers,
JR
