I just picked up 6 black cons tonight from that pet place. They are all roughly 1"-1.5" (hard to tell really). Looks like I have half male and half female but still not sure on that. My question is, What size tank should I move these guys to when I decide to breed them? If I get 3 pairs out of it then great! But I was thinking maybe a 55 gallon tank and just divide it up to separate the pairs. What are your thoughts?

What size tank are they in now? Do you know what females look like? if not they are the one with pinkish red on their bellys. Are you trying to breed them all?

I have 3 with a pinkish/orangish belly and shorter fins. and I have 3 that dont have the orange and seem to have streamers coming off their top and bottom fins. They are currently in a 30 gallon for now until I can figure out what to go with. I want to breed cons to use as feeders and possibly sell off some as well.

i see. yeah a 55 is sufficient. divide them up when u see multiple pairs. GL

you can use the 30gal to breed all three breeding pair. 10gals for each pair. I have bred mine in a 10gal.

Well in a 55 gallon you can have another divider for a grow out tank.

Actually I have decided against using a 55 for them. I was just in contact with a guy local to me that has 40 20 gallon fish tanks with painted backgrounds. I have been wanting to setup a fish room in the basement. So I might setup a pair per tank. Picking up 10-15 of these tanks :)

the bigger the tank the more distracted they are is what ive found
especially for 1 inch convicts
i would just put each pair in a 10g

Cons are prolific breeders....The 55/divide setup will workout just fine....Make sure to get the breeding/pairing tank up and running soon....I have had 1/2 inch cons spawn for me......
