I'm using a mag 18.
Sweet. I have a 220, and Friday I'm buying a 40 gallon "show" sump from a guy tearing down his fish room. Comes with everything but the pump, I've been looking at this mag-drive 24, but an 18 will hopefully be cheaper, quieter, and sufficient... How do you like yours?

I like it so far very quiet and seems to move alot of water..

keep a close eye on the 2 sumps as they will bow very quickly and leak from the bulkheads. I tried something like this years ago but the plastic sumps are not thick enough to hold water constantly. a better idea is to use 2 glass tanks of the same size. even better are plexi tanks easier to drill holes.

I have something like this running right now. I have 3 rubber maid tubs, all connected. the center is a refugium.

I set mine up in the backyard and found the bulk head dripped water right away. I solved mine with a gasket on each side of the bulkhead.

No probs so far, and I even dump 5g of water in them at a time, and they will buldge a little. if you are worried at all, you could get the lids and cut the center out, and put them on the tubs, to build up the ridge of the tubs some.

Mine also has a gasket on each side and so far still no leaks. The tubs don't bow to much as long as the water level isn't to high (maybe half full).

That came out awesome! I've been thinking about doing the exact same thing, well using one tub, never thought about running two together. Question...how tall did the sump end up, or i should say how tall did you make your stand to fit the sump and plumbing under it?

My stand is kinda tall its around 42". I made it tall because its gonna be built in a wall in my basement and I wanted it to be visible with a couch sitting in front of it.

will the plastic hold the water???

I assume your talking about the sumps. They've done very well so far. They don't really bow much unless you get them over half full. Half full is about the right depth for everything to work right anyways. I may still keep an eye out for something a little sturdier though just for safety sake, but for now all is well with no problems to mention. (knock on wood)
