Hey all,

I'm considering purchasing a few of these pbass to go with my tems.

They are supposedly around 6".

Ocell or Mono.....or too small to tell still?

Thanks in advance,

rc

look like ocell to me

occelaris bro..........

Yep some nice ocellaris!

that was quick ha.

May I ask what you guys are looking for specifically when trying to decide whether a fish is either a mono or ocell? With the contradictory information I've come across and the seemingly large amount of variability within species - (whether it be due to WC vs. farm bred, collection point, or just genes) - I find it's somewhat tricky for a relative newcomer to pbass such as myself to decipher between these two species.

thanks again,

rc.

Bar shape, head shape, no black on dorsal fin-occelaris.

Is the black coloring on the dorsal fin indicative only with juvenile ocells?

Edit: Can't seem to get the video to embed correctly. Here's the direct link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISULYfG-9QI

This video shows "C. ocellaris" clearly with very black dorsal fins. Are these actaully monos, is the black dorsal fin coloration possibly due to their mating, or is this just another case of wide variability between species?

Could you be more specific in regards to head shape and bar shape? To my untrained eye the head shapes look similar between monos and ocells.

Thanks,

rc.

ocells.
one thing to look out for in PURE(meaning not farmed hybrids) occels/monos is that most ocells will have the red eyes whereas not all monos do,however there are still monos with the red eyes.
monos get very red very early compared to ocells.
head shape is different.
monos markings are very different from ocells as they grow.

these guys look like florida boys if you ask me which are occels to an extent.. they look nice and you could always fatten them up
