Yet another...

He loves his food lol, just won't eat it reliably with me standing close enough to video yet but I'll see what I can do :)

Looking forward to it

Skipped the morning feeding today to see if making him/her a little more hungry will get him/her a little less shy about eating with me in camera range. Well that, and the lump of dinner was still pretty prominent before I left for work

Latley ive been doing something similar. The only fish that gets fed daily is the skinny lap. I started skipping days on the small endli's too. Wanna give them time to digest. Sometimes skip two days on the bigger polys

Yeah usually I feed a medley of frozen fish at night, but in the morning I toss in some pellets just for some extra nutrition- not very many, just enough that everyone gets a couple... almost like giving vitamins. I used to do a bigger helping of pellets, but my ornate specifically eats until it has a literal ping pong ball sized bulge so I've been cutting back because I'm CONVINCED that fish is going to impact itself one of these days

When i got back into the hobby i spent allot of time in the health and disease section and ever since then i always feed on the lighter side and skipping days. Figure predictors dont eat every day in the wild so what the heck

True, these guys evolved to eat whatever they managed to get ahold of, which could be a fish a week, or a fish per day, but neither with any level of consistency. I usually feed like crazy till they hit a certain size, then dial it back to once a day (with a couple pellets thrown in for the vitamin content). Once my "big" guys start slowing down on growth I'll probably dial it back even further to once every other day but all of them are still in that 8"-10" range so growth still hasn't really plateaued yet.

I kept reptiles for a lot of years, specifically large lizards like Tegus and Rhino iguanas (before my reptilephobic wife came along ;) ), a lot of the husbandry, mainly when it comes to feeding and frequency of feeding holds true for fish. Although I do have to say, cleaning droppings off tiles took a lot less time than partial WCs on 300+ gallons of water :(

Haha had a tegu when i was a kid. Didnt handle it enough and ended up being absolutely evil. Had to wear welders gloves to do anything in the tank.

Oh man if you had a gold/colombian tegu you were in trouble from the get-go, those suckers are the devil 90% of the time. With the Argentinian variants you just had to be sure to take precautions to tame the feeding response (Like feeding them outside of their enclosure so they associated you taking them out with dinner time, rather than the lid opening) because their jaws are just massively powerful and can result in some pretty ugly bites. I used to be "that guy" who walked around with a 12 pound lizard on his shoulders haha, but hey, I live in Florida, the weather is perfect year-round for reptiles and natural sun is way better than those UV lights
