YFS brand food compared to NLS & Northfin food

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yup, the goal for the vast majority of commercial feed manufacturers is to reduce their overall cost of protein, hence marine proteins such as fish meal, squid meal, krill, etc, are replaced with lower cost alternatIves such as corn, soy, wheat, peas, etc. Nothing new, been taking place for several decades.

Wow, this has all been very insightful for me and I truly appreciate everyone’s input. I have the northfin RD. RD. recommended on the way now!

Let us know how your fish take to them?

Oops, see comment above.

JackEmerson JackEmerson So I just began feeding them the new NLS Algaemax pellets for the last couple days (havent tried the cichlid formula yet). They seem to have some extra pep in their step when it comes time to eat. I currently only keep Mbuna, Chindongo Saulosi specifically, and the colors of all my fish have always been great but now the dominant males color seems to be turned up a notch per se.

I would absolutely recommend these to anyone and NLS will be the only brand in my Mbuna's diet going forward.

Much thanks to RD. RD. for the recommendation of this brand/formula, and the explanation of the importance of feeding aquatic based ingredients rather than non-aquatic!

Awesome. Happy to hear you found a good staple pellet. It seems like we have both been in the hobby for about the same amount of time (about a year).

I am still narrowing down my staple diet for my cichlids. Currently I feed a mix of NLS, NF , xtreme, omega, YFS, and Ron’s. But this diversity of pellets is not sustainable and I am in the process of picking one or two pellets and being done with it.
