Out of curiousity JoeFatFish, do you have a lead on which river those solid velvet black istlanum are? And if so, any plans on them?

I bought my female from Rapps and the male was purchased from Rapps too by another member.

Ooooh, Rapps tends to be hush hush about his sources ...

Awesomeness on those fish Ruck ... I hadn't seen them in your collection before, I thought Darth Odo's was the only Darth Vader variant of istlanum out there.

Cornbread5 - It could be the substrate, but then Darth odo's beast is kept bare bottom and is just as black so I don't believe so. I think it's another race/river variant.

Thank you. Another member here in SOCAL has a big male too (1fatdovii). I actually bought my male from him last year. I agree that it's not the substrate. This variant was suppose to be the more common one, but now, it looks like more people have the red variant.

The Istlanum has a wide mid-Western distribution on the Pacific slope in Mexico. There are many varients, as there are several rivers containing them, from the Northern Part of the State of Colima, (Artigaz-Asaz) all way South of Acapulco. This varient I beleive is from the Mexican state of Michoacan, and from Rio Papagallo, and yes before the arrival of the "red" varient, was the more common. I beleive it still is the most common for now, as not that many have the red yet, it just starting to spread. And only in first stages of production on East coast only for now, before mine and Ruck Fules paires kick into gear.
