wrong type of compressicep... this is D.comp not A. comp...

I have had someone tell me I am wrong, but I still believe that if the wood does not have tannins left it will not effect the ph... Tannins is what causes the water to change colors...

is tannins why it has taken me 3 months of soaking this wood and it still leaches into the water .. will it eventually stop or is there another way to hurry the process, my baby plecos are waiting for it! And both set ups are gorgeous!

I got the castles a my neighborhood store but I have seen them at all your major chain pet stores. The downside is that they are fairly expensive. It was four total pieces all together. We recently built our house and haven't painted the walls upstairs yet. So with those castles and with the blue rocks our entire upstairs "glow." It really looked cool! Now, with the natural look that "wow" factor and "glow" are gone. The upside is that the fish seem much happier! Don't get me wrong, the tank still looks great it just isn't super bright.

If you give them fine sand in the bottom you will start to see more of the natural behavior of your cichlids, they also use the sand to clean their gills which means that you potentially are less prone to bactierial infections (not saying that you have problems with it as it is).

I prefer the more natural look but the castles were different...I like 'em booth

I kinda feel the same way. I bet my 3 YO nephew would think that castle was awesome....In fact, I have a kid on the way. Maybe when he or she is 3 I might just set up a castle tank. Put some rope fish in there for dragons?
