I've been reading through the Arowana forum long before I got mine, and always laughed when people would say they jump out of the tank. But you guys really were not kidding, huh? I'm doing a 30% WC yesterday and I open the lid, put the siphon in, and immediately closed the lid. I sit in the chair and watch the bucket fill up, lift the lid, kill the siphon, close the lid and go dump the water. As I walk back in, lift the lid, it's almost like he's waiting there for me to open it again, because sure enough he comes shooting out about 8 feet from the tank, across the room. He landed on carpet, and I ran over and scooped him up gently and dropped him back in the tank. I thought to myself...what are the chances??!!
Today, I watch him swim to the left side of the tank, so I quickly open the right side to drop in some Aro sticks, again sure enough he comes shooting out, this time he hits me in the chest, and I drop the bag of Aro sticks so I can pull up my shirt to catch him in my shirt. Caught him and got him back in quickly. Then I spent 20 minutes cleaning up the floor. Is this something I should be trying to work with, like Shamu?? Twice in two days.....:nilly:

Let me guess, you have a Silver.....

yea, I use clear acrylic for cover also, if use glass cover incase the fish jump and the glass hit back on the tank braces it might break the cover or worse the tank.

Silver are great jumpers as compared to asian aros so better be very careful, and they're really powerful.

Not so funny anymore huh? Why would you not think that what happens to most is just the nature of the fish. You can use velcro straps for lids. Alot cleaner look than wieghts.

Right into the chest, ouch. Aros can be kinda jumpy. You won't have to laugh at us anymore but with us.:grinno:
