Mines the other way to my JD female always beats the male then when she lays eggs they are all lovie dovie again.

Those species have it easy compared to bettas. If somebody line-bred friendly bettas they'd be rich.

Why do male cichlids typically beat up thier females? Can you imagine how nice the displays would be if males would just treat thier ladies like, well... ladies?

Those females just have poor self esteem. They dont think they deserve a friendly male cichlid.

I think I will now open a battered cichlid rescue mission. Feel free to send all your abused female cichlids to "Gunnys Home For LadyFish".
