Why would I cut the heads off of little snakes and out them in my tank?

Fill me in im a little confused and have been out of the hobby for a awhile...
Is there any benefit in doing this? Faster cycle? or just for pure aesthetic?

regardless i think carp are natures gift to all of us, so cute with there big ole mouths always opening and closing as if saying I love you!:grinno:
 
you keeping all of them? put them all in one tank and dont feed them, survival of the fittest, and free feeders.
