young giant snakehead

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, I had 2, and ended up passing them on for the very reason you said. (not seeing them in a pond)
They grow very quick and I find have a growth spurt from around 8".

I think the 100g will last till around May 2012, then it will go into the 8f tank.
The thing that makes these not really suitable for home Aquaria (IMO) is not only the sheer size and weight they grow to, but also the terrible waste of a huge tank for 1 single fish!

Good luck mate!

Thats great information tokyo and i do see your point as regards to the size,
i will be looking at him more as a pet, like a dog or cat.
Honestly for 4 1/2 inches he really has character, when i walk into the room he goes mad swimming up and down the tank.
I once had an oscar that i had trained, he was just that keen to eat, obviousely he didn't have a mouth full of teeth.
Tokyo i'm sorry we got off to such a bad start, i am on different internet sites and have seen too many internet trolls (net. negative cynical bullies) and i think i just reacted too strongly and too quickly.
I knew you could help me as i had read some of your other posts and i think i may have been a bit dissapointed in your initial reply and reacted way OTT.

I had to get that out of the way, thanks very much for helping me out, i also took your advice on the temps. and the food and everything is looking really good with micro.
I had never lost a snakehead before and just couldn't believe it when i lost the micro. i had of my own.
Thanks again and all the best Tokyo.

No problems mate.
If you want my honest opinion, in your situation I would sell or rehome the Micro, and go for a slightly less stressful Channa such as Channa Marulioides.

They look similar to Marulius, but tend to max out at 60cm in home aquaria.
You could have a group of them in a 8ft tank with no problem, then weed it down to a pair if you are interested in breeding.

Or there is the Channa Diplogramma which is almost identical to Micropeltes, but tends to be a lot smaller similar in size to the Marulioides.
They get a gorgeous blue sheen to them too, and I find they are no so nasty!

Another note is Marulioides has been kept in community tanks by a lot of members here with no problems too.

Cheers, TGM

Ah! Diplogramma, I like the sound of him,
What does he max out at pal,
Could I trouble you for a pic. If you have one.
On the pulchra thread, I never meant to double post, sometimes im useing my phone nd mess it up.
Your right about not mixing Channa,
But when I know theyre going to do it anyway I just try to make it as easy on their fish as I can
And as you so often point out most Channa are semi trop.
Cheers pal, don't give up. Lol
