I just turn the lights on my tank noticed my little glass knife was swimming near the top of the tank. I've never seen it up there. When I looked closer I saw his tail fin is broken an it looks like its barely connected. I have no idea what happened to it or what if anything can I do. Hes been in my 55 gallon for over 6 months with many loaches an also some archers. I don't think he was attacked but you never know. I'm afraid. If I try an net him to switch him to another tank his tail could break off. What should I do?

You could try and catch it in a cup underwater and then pull it out no net and put in a tank alone for a little and see. I've seen black knives regrow their tailed to some extent, not sure what happened to yours though

Even a tuperware container could work great for catching him. Or a bucket. Just something so you don't risk further injury. Wish I could help more. Goold luck. I'm pulling for the lil guy.

I would isolate him if its not to stressful and simply keep him in good water and good food. best thing ime to heal delicate fish like knives.

Glad you asked! I was gonna update soon. So his tail broke off a couple of days after my original post. I could not find it so I assumed the loaches ate it. The day it fell off he was still eating an acting normal. So that was encouraging. Yesterday I noticed that he has already began to regrow its tail. There is a small stump growing now. Ill get some pics this evening. Its too bright in the room now.

Wow!! That's awesome!! I'm glad to hear the little guy is doing well!!

He's doing great the tail has almost completely healed. The tail has a slight kink in it but thats about it. Wish I would have been able take more pics after it broke off an up to this point. Just havent had much time with a new born in the house.
